Papers sought for major postgraduate conference

Postgraduate students from across the UK have been encouraged to submit papers for a major conference at the University of Aberdeen.

Moving Forward – a hugely successful annual event that brings together students working on Masters degrees and PhDs in Arts and Social Sciences, Law, Business, Divinity, Religious Studies, Education and Music and Languages – is now in its fourth year.

The conference's aim is to bring postgraduate research students together from different departments, schools and universities to discuss and debate common issues and problems. Individuals will be able to network and form long term friendships, as well as having an ideal opportunity to present and discuss their work in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

The conference will be held on 13-14 June 2007 at the King's College Campus in Old Aberdeen, and papers on any topic within the scope of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) are currently being sought.  Abstracts in MS Word of no more than 250 words should be sent to href="mailto:abstracts_movingforward@abdn.ac.uk">abstracts_movingforward@abdn.ac.uk</a> by 16 April 2007.

"The conference has grown from strength to strength and is proving itself a vital learning tool for postgraduate students throughout the UK," said Margaret Hodder, currently studying for an M.Th. in Ministry and Mission, and one of the conference organisers.

"We provide not only a range of generic sessions with advice vital to the successful completion of a postgraduate career, but also offer individuals the ideal opportunity to both disseminate and absorb cutting edge research.

"The conference further helps to create a postgraduate student community which means experiences can be shared and lasting contacts established."

Professor Angela Black, Head of the Graduate School for CASS, added: "This event continues to be the key occasion in the annual calendar for postgraduate students in the UK and overseas. We are looking forward to giving a warm welcome to all delegates of this leading conference and we are very proud of our students for their leadership and organisational skills which marks this important event as both unique and innovative".
