The University of Aberdeen set a milestone in collaboration today (Friday, November 10) by signing an agreement to work more closely with Wuhan University, China.
The University of Aberdeen welcomed a delegation from the Chinese University to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding, enhancing the Institution’s relations with China.
The Wuhan delegation was headed by Liu Jingnan, University President and Dr Wu Junpei, Vice President (International Relations). Professors Xu Lihua, Liu Kaipei, Xie Hongzing and Huang Taiyan were also in attendance. The delegation was also accompanied by Mr Li Xiaoshu, Director of International Programs.
Participants from the University of Aberdeen attending today’s signing ceremony included the Chancellor, Lord Wilson of Tillyorn, Professor C Duncan Rice, Principal and Vice Chancellor, along with other senior colleagues from the Institution.
Professor Dominic Houlihan, Vice Principal, Research & Commercialisation has been working with the Chinese delegation and is delighted that the University signed today’s Memorandum of Understanding. He said: “China's rapid economic development is reshaping the global economy with important implications for Scotland and other advanced economies.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the University of Aberdeen to work together with the Wuhan University to build on our strong links with Chinese universities.
“The signing of today’s Memorandum of Understanding will enable us to work together on a wide and deep collaboration that will include academic and staff exchange and undergraduate exchange.”
Under the agreement, the universities will create joint undergraduate business degree programmes in Management Studies, Entrepreneurship, and Economics at Aberdeen. Thirty to 45 Wuhan students will begin two years’ study in China, with links to Aberdeen staff, in preparation for a further two years residency in Aberdeen.
The alliance is part of a wider programme marking the University of Aberdeen’s long-standing links with China that involves a series of events.
The MOU signing ceremony took place today (Friday, November 10) at the University of Aberdeen at 9.00am.
