Immpact presents major findings at world congress

This week, Immpact is presenting significant scientific findings on maternal mortality reduction and how to improve safe motherhood worldwide at the largest international meeting for gynaecologists and obstetricians.

This international research initiative will be presenting its findings at the high profile XVIII FIGO World Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which takes place on 5 – 10 November.

A team of researchers from Burkina Faso, Indonesia and Aberdeen will be presenting their abstracts on safe motherhood intervention.

Immpact has also accepted an invitation by FIGO to take part in the special ‘President’s Session’ in which Dr Julia Hussein, International Research Team Leader, Immpact, will be speaking on ‘strategies to reduce maternal mortality’.

Dr Hussein said “I am very pleased with our contribution to this important international forum which is an excellent opportunity to showcase some of our significant scientific results from our first phase of research in selected focus countries.

"As Immpact is founded – and will continue to rely - on its strong international partnerships and capacity building, it is particularly gratifying to see Immpact represented at this World Congress with a team of international speakers who have all had their abstracts accepted by the FIGO Scientific Committee.”

Research in each country is led by the Country Technical Partner: Centre Muraz in Burkina Faso; Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research in Ghana; and Centre for Family Welfare in Indonesia.

International technical partners include the College of Life Sciences and Medicine at the University of Aberdeen; the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; and the Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine.

The initiative is coordinated by the Immpact Directorate based at the University of Aberdeen.
