PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: Friday, October 27, Natural History Centre, University of Aberdeen – full details below
North-east Nursery children will be hissing with snakes, hooting with owls and creeping with spiders at special Halloween events at the University of Aberdeen next week.
Neeps and Creeps is part of a series of seasonal events for the under five’s taking place at the University’s Natural History Centre.
Neeps and Creeps will see around 50 children learning about Halloween animals using the Centre's handling collection, which includes snakes, owls, spiders, bats and salamanders. They will also tour the Zoology Museum to find ingredients for a witch’s potion as well as take part in a spooky craft activity.
Mandy Tulloch, the Natural History Centre's Development Co-ordinator, said: "Beyond the children having fun and seeing animals associated with Halloween, they'll be finding out about their natural history. We even have some live animals for them to touch which they will just love!"
Neeps and Creeps is part of Nature Tots - an exciting programme of activities for two to five-year-olds and their parents. The series has been specifically designed to inspire them about environment and natural history.
The aim is to allow children to explore subjects not always available to them at home. Caring for and respect towards the environment also feature prominently within each session.
Up to 25 children will be attending each of the two sessions of Neeps and Creeps. They will be handling a variety of specimens including snake skins, skulls, live corn snakes and live salamanders.
To book a place at the Neeps and Creeps morning or afternoon sessions on Friday, October 27, contact the Natural History Centre on 01224 274545.
