A talented group of students, who are some of the best speakers in Scottish debating, will go head to head in a friendly, competitive, debate tonight (Thursday, September 21) on the age of sexual consent.
The British Parliamentary Debate, which will take place at the University of Aberdeen, will address the motion that, “This House would abolish the age of sexual consent”.
Tonight’s event is the second Debater event, which forms part of the Freshers’ Week activities. Four speakers from the University of Aberdeen will take on four speakers from St Andrew’s University.
Vice-President of Debater, Karen Reid, said she hoped the event would give new students an insight into the fun side of debating. She said: “Competitive debating makes up a large part of our activities and is incredibly useful in developing students’ skills in public speaking, argumentation, and the ability to think on their feet!
“It can also be tremendous fun and we hope this friendly competition will illustrate this. The debate will feature some of the best speakers in Scottish debating so it’s guaranteed to be a lively and entertaining event.”
Tonight’s event takes place at 7.30pm in King’s College Conference Centre, University of Aberdeeen.
