University’s trade mission to Mexico

The University of Aberdeen is participating this week in the EXPETRO International Petroleum Congress and Exhibition in Cancun, Mexico (August 28 - September 2).

The University has been participating in an inward trade mission which has been organised jointly by Scottish Development International and Aberdeen City Council.

The University’s team have been meeting with universities and other organisations in Mexico involved in the petroleum sector. The mission is coming to a close with a combined presence at the EXPETRO show together with UK Trade & Investment, SDI, Aberdeen City Council, and local Aberdeen based SME’s.

University representative Mark Critchley, said: “We have established some very productive and valuable links with a number of universities based in Mexico City, Tabasco and other parts of Mexico. In addition, we have also been engaging in discussions with the state-owned oil and gas companies on how best to make use of the University’s expertise, in particular in safety management, environmental protection and decontamination, drilling, and project management.

“We have received widespread interest in our research and consultancy activities and taught postgraduate courses. We look forward to continuing our discussions with these institutions in Mexico and developing a mutually beneficial long term relationship to facilitate the application of skills from Scotland, and Aberdeen in particular, to solve problems for the benefit of Mexico.”

The EXPETRO show closes on Saturday, September 2.
