Bookings are soaring for the University of Aberdeen’s biggest and most important events of the year as preparations get underway to welcome thousands of visitors to the 7th annual Open Day.
The University’s hugely popular event, which will be held on Tuesday, August 29, is aimed mainly at those interested in coming to study at Aberdeen in September 2007. It is open to people of all ages looking for more information on the University and studying at Aberdeen and late applicants for 2006 entry will also be very welcome to attend.
The University is looking forward to the busiest Open Day yet with over 4,500 potential students and other visitors expected to descend on King’s College campus.
For visitors travelling from further afield, this year’s Open Day promises to be the best yet with a packed programme of events planned to showcase the University, ranging from presentations and departmental activities, to exhibitions, demonstrations and campus tours. There will also be live performances from two of Aberdeen’s most talented acts when Edgar Prais and Steven Milne from The Little Kicks take to the stage, sponsored by The Tunnels music venue, in the University’s diner - Zeste.
Open Day organisers have also come up with a solution to help potential students and other visitors travel quickly and safely between the campus and the city’s main travel hubs. Visitors can choose to be collected by the University at either Aberdeen airport or from the city’s train or bus stations. However, in order to take advantage of the pick-ups on offer, visitors must book in advance of next week’s event online at: www.abdn.ac.uk/openday
The University’s Marketing Officer, Lesley MacLennan, said: “The pick-up service being offered will ensure that travel to and from the University is quick, easy and hassle-free for our visitors.
“We would like to make the event as accessible as possible for visitors travelling from all over the UK and Europe and we would like to encourage as many people from outwith the North-East of Scotland to come along to next Tuesday’s Open Day.“
The aim of the Open Day is to provide an opportunity for prospective students to find out more about what the University has to offer. Parents, teachers and friends are also welcome and people are expected to travel from as far afield as Italy, Greece, Ireland, and Germany.
The Open Day features a packed line-up of presentations on issues such as student life, finance, careers, and accommodation. Visitors can take part in departmental visits and campus tours at the University’s King’s College.
A party at The Union will offer a real taste of student life and there will be the chance for potential students to stay overnight in the Halls of Residence. A Parents’ Reception has also been arranged for the night before the Open Day - to be held in James Mackay Hall on the King’s College campus.
Visitors are welcome to attend the Open Day on their own or as part of a school party. There will be a Chill Out Zone especially for adults to enjoy some quiet time during the busy schedule. Selectors and other staff will be visiting the Chill Out Zone throughout the day to chat informally to parents and teachers.
