A fascinating compilation of music spanning many centuries has been recorded on the University of Aberdeen’s world-renowned Aubertin organ.
Director of University Music, Dr Roger Williams, joined forces with Nigel Allcoat, Professor of Improvisation at the Royal Academy of Music, to compile a CD of music on the distinctive Aubertin organ, housed in King’s College Chapel.
The organ, installed in the Chapel in April 2004, is the first Aubertin organ in the UK. Designed by French master organ builder, Bernard Aubertin, the organ gives the University of Aberdeen an instrument of international distinction and provides a focus for global research on organ music and early keyboard music.
George McPhee, Master of Choristers and organist at Paisley Abbey, has praised the high standard of the compilation.
He said: “The enthralling and delightfully exotic sounds of the Aubertin organ are brilliantly captured by Roger Williams and Nigel Allcoat in a varied and appealing programme of music spanning many centuries.
“Great praise is also due for the superb quality of sound production in this Cantoris disc along with the informative sleeve notes by Bernard Aubertin himself along with that of the performers”
Music featured on the CD includes Couperin, Titelouze, J.S.Bach and Messiaen.
