The University of Aberdeen’s acclaimed Chapel Choir has proved a firm favourite with audiences of the BBC’s Songs of Praise as a recent episode featuring the choir has won a coveted Gold Award from the Christian Broadcasting Council.
The Chapel Choir performed on Songs of Praise in Gleneagles in April this year, joined by singer songwriter Eddi Reader.
Tern TV, a UK independent production company based in Aberdeen, produced the programme for the BBC.
David Strachan, Managing Director of Tern TV, said: “The choir are becoming firm favourites with Songs of Praise audiences. Their singing is great and so is their on-screen performance.
“We and the BBC greatly appreciate the commitment and energy given by the choir and Dr Roger Williams, Director of University Music, in performance, planning and preparation.
“As an Aberdeen company we are glad to have been able to take the music of the University of Aberdeen to the audience of millions across the UK and Europe who watched this programme, and very pleased that the programme's standard has been recognised in this award.”
Dr Roger Williams said: “I would like to congratulate David Strachan and all at Tern television.
“I am thrilled that the Chapel Choir of the University has made a significant contribution to this award. This is the third time that we have produced the music for Songs of Praise and it is always a great privilege to work with David Strachan and his team
“Though television is hard work, everyone on the team is very helpful and encouraging, making the occasion enjoyable and helping us musicians give of our best.”
