Charities from across the North-east are set to benefit from funding available from the Student’s Charities Campaign. Applications for funding are being invited from the Campaign as part of its annual disbursement of the funds raised throughout the year. This year a total of £30,000 is available for distributing to local charities.
The Students’ Charities Campaign has been running for over 80 years and incorporates students from the three higher institutions of Aberdeen: The University of Aberdeen, The Robert Gordon University, and Aberdeen College.
This year the Campaign ran a variety of events, from the annually-renowned Torcher Parade and Student Show to pub crawls, tea dances, charity skydives, a fashion show and Jailbreak (where students have to get as far away from Aberdeen without spending any money), with all the proceeds going to charity.
Last year 61 local charities benefited from the Students’ Charities Campaign fundraising activities receiving amounts from between £50 to as much as £10,000. Major beneficiaries included Aberdeen Samaritans, Rape and Sexual Abuse North-East, The Brain Injury Grampian Group, Befriend a Child Scheme, Children 1st, and Grampian Society for the Blind.
Drew Elliot, Campaign Co-ordinator of the Students’ Charities Campaign, said: “This has been an amazing year for the Campaign. Our students have worked extremely hard and I would personally like to thank everyone who helped us achieve this year’s fantastic total.
“The annual disbursement represents the pinnacle of our fundraising year and it is a huge thrill for all involved to be able to open applications and start the process of allocating the funding.”
