The University of Aberdeen’s Balinese Gamelan and Madrigal Choir will take a trip to Belgium next week to perform in some of the country’s most beautiful venues.
St Salvatore’s Cathedral in Bruges and St Paul’s Church in Ghent will resound to the sound of music students from the University’s School of Education.
All members of the Aberdeen Gamelan are music students at the University who have performed all over Scotland and have broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 3 and television.
The University’s Madrigal Choir was formed recently to celebrate the launch of the University’s Sixth Century Campaign. The choir have performed in many prestigious venues including Aberdeen’s St Andrew’s Cathedral where they attracted a capacity audience. Specialising in English madrigals, Scottish folk songs and contemporary music, the choir have gained a reputation as Aberdeen’s leading young singing sensations.
Dr Paul Mealor, Director of the Gamelan and conductor of the choir, said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for our students to spread the news that music at Aberdeen is thriving!
“I am so proud of our students and I’m sure they will be excellent ambassadors for the University and the city.”
The students travel to Belgium this Saturday (June 18) until Wednesday, June 22.
