Nursery children across Aberdeenshire are attending special events in their communities to celebrate National Science Week.
Over 200 infants from ten schools will take part in Rainbow Science - a series of science activities specially designed and organised by the University of Aberdeen Natural History Centre, starting on Monday.
During the 60 minute sessions, the pre-schoolers will take part in activities based on the theme of colour.
The events are aimed at introducing the three disciplines of science - biology, chemistry and physics - in a fun way.
The children will explore the biology of colour by looking at plants that grow during Spring. They will do a fun chemistry experiment with milk and swirling colours and also look at the physics of light and rainbows by making some super-bubbles.
Mandy Tulloch, Development Co-ordinator at the Natural History Centre, said: "National Science Week is organised by the British Association for the Advancement of Science with thousands of fantastic events taking place throughout March.
“Few activities cater for the youngest of children, especially within outlying areas, so we thought we would contact nurseries within Aberdeenshire to find out if they might be keen to take part. We were inundated with requests.
"We will be introducing the children to the world of science through play. They will find out what science is while learning more about the world around them as well as generally having fun. It's going to be great!"
The events are taking place at a number of community venues. Schools within the Peterhead area will be visiting St Andrew's Church, Peterhead, Monday March 14. The events continue in Insch Church Hall; on Tuesday March 15; Victoria Hall Ballater on Wednesday March 16; and finish at Johnshaven Village Hall on Thursday, March 17.
