Plans are well underway for a major event showcasing the wide range of facilities at the University of Aberdeen to the next generation of science students.
Hundreds of would-be students from across Britain and beyond are expected to visit the institution next month for the annual Bachelor of Sciences Applicant Day.
A packed programme of activities which include sessions providing advice on finance, student support and careers is being lined up for those who have been offered a BSc place and who are attending the special day.
Academics will also be on hand to give talks, lead tours around labs and also demonstrate the kind of practical experiments the visitors would undertake if they take up their place at Aberdeen.
Biological Sciences, Biology, Plant and Soil Science, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Computing Science, Geography and Environment, Geology and Petroleum Geology, Mathematical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Physics, Psychology and Public Health will all be represented.
Professor Neva Haites, Head of the University’s College of Life Sciences and Medicine, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for both our visitors to see and ourselves to showcase the wonderful resources we have in the University of Aberdeen for the teaching of Life Science and medical related topics.
“We look forward to providing a warm welcome and to demonstrating our commitment to continuing to offer relevant and stimulating teaching and overall experience in University life.”
Professor Albert Rodger, Head of the College of Physical Sciences, added: “Applicants will find a friendly, lively community with the College of Physical Sciences located in the heart of the King’s College campus.
“We anticipate a great day where applicants and parents can experience first hand the facilities which make Aberdeen one of the most exciting and enjoyable places to pursue higher education.”
Last year’s Applicant Day attracted around 450 people and this year is expected to be just as popular. Applications for BSc places are up 16%.
A welcome buffet with entertainment has also been arranged for those staying the night before the event which takes place on March 2.
