Catherine Wright, a final year medical student at the University of Aberdeen was awarded first place in this year's Adult National Open ice-skating championships.
Held in Sheffield in April, the competition hosted 68 solo ice dancers, Catherine competed in the Gold category (the highest level) against skaters from all over the UK. To take home the gold in the Solo Adult Ice Dance Nationals.
Catherine succeeded at the highest level in both pattern dance and free dance where she won gold in both sections and had the highest score overall.
Catherine will now get back to studying to complete her final year of medicine before graduating in June this year.
However, Catherine has no plans to swap skates for stethoscopes entirely as she hopes to continue both, using her time on the ice to relax and recharge before a day on the wards of ARI.
Catherine explains: “I've been skating since I was 10 years old and loved it from the second I stepped on the ice.
“It's been tricky to juggle studying medicine and skating however I train at 5.45am so I can make time for both.
“I plan to continue competing both in the Gold Adult categories and Senior categories for as long as possible! I know that the next few years in my career will be a challenge but I’m hopeful that skating can remain my release.”
