"We call it soul food" by Dr Amy Caughey from the Canadian Arctic

Seminar on Inuit food sovereignty, country food, and nutrition in Nunavut, Canada being held in the Rowett Institute, Room 2.046 and ONLINE! Hosted by Dr Silvia Gratz on 7th March 2-3pm.

As part of the Rowett Wellcome Trust ISSF International Partnership Award - Dr Amy Caughey will visit from the Canadian Arctic to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships and give a talk on "We call it soul food": Inuit food sovereignty, country food, and nutrition in Nunavut, Canada.

Amy is a public health nutritionist in Nunavut, where she works on a range of initiatives related to Inuit country food, food security, diabetes education, prenatal nutrition, including zoonotic disease prevention  and food safety in the Arctic. She has worked with - and learned from - Elders, hunters, families, researchers, health professionals and Inuit organisations across Nunavut. Amy is a registered dietitian and holds a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Metabolism (University of Aberdeen). She recently completed a PhD in Public Health (University of Guelph) that focused on Inuit country food and nutrition in early life. Amy grew up in rural Ontario, and has lived in Iqaluit, Nunavut for the past 20 years, where she shares her home with her husband, two teenage daughters, and two dogs!
