Department of Music PhD composers have been busy around the country in recent months, with works performed by many different groups and ensembles.
PhD student Eleanor Haward recently had a new commission for the BBC 'Music and Meditation' podcast recorded by members of the BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Orchestra at the famous Maida Vale Studios in London. The podcast will be available to download in the new year and is the second department composer to have a work appear on this series, following on from Ben Ponniah earlier this year. Ponniah himself had two recent works published by Boosey & Hawkes, with one of them 'O magnum mysterium' to be performed by leading choirs Sansara and Sonoro in London this Christmas. Henrik Dahlgren's work 'There is also loneliness' was performed by the Voces8 Scholars in October with his work 'I am, I am, I am' broadcast on Swedish Radio in November. Conner McCain's recent choral works 'The Lord sits as king forever' and the 'Iona Boat Song' were performed by St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh and the university's own chamber choir. Joe Stollery's orchestral piece 'Slains' is to be performed by the Inverurie Orchestra in December. All students work with department composers Prof Phillip Cooke and Dr John De Simone.
