Fulfilling her father's dream gave Nure Jannat Jui the motivation to achieve an MSc in Sociology, despite having lost her father while studying in Aberdeen.
Due to Covid restrictions Nure (25) was unable to travel back to her home country of Bangladesh to see her father before he passed away, leaving her struggling to cope.
But with the help of friends and staff at the University, she found the motivation to continue.
“I didn’t want to give up on my degree because it was my father’s last dream,” she explained.
“It wasn’t an easy journey, and I couldn’t have done it without the unconditional love and support I had from my friends, family and my teacher – especially my friend Atik Raj who was so supportive and encouraging.
“This journey has been a huge challenge, but I have learned so much and I believe it will be help me to build my future.”
Following graduation Nure plans a career in social work focusing on the rights on women and children.
“I wish my father was here to see me graduate but it’s okay, I know that he is watching me and feeling proud.”
