Field visit to the Highlands explores community approaches to carbon offsetting

Project on 'Community Approaches to Carbon Offsetting' explores initiatives that restore biodiversity and support communities in addition to storing carbon.

Prof. Tavis Potts (Dean for Environmental Sustainability) attended a recent fieldtrip to the Highlands, visiting the Bunloit and Dundreggan estates near Drumnadrochit, near Inverness. The trip was a part of the Scottish Universities Insight Institute project on Community Approaches to Carbon Offsetting that is exploring the rapidly expanding offsetting industry, where projects such as afforestation or peatland restoration are funded that deliver carbon emissions reductions to offset emissions elsewhere. This project explores offsetting initiatives that restore biodiversity and support communities in addition to removing carbon.
