Just Transitions Lab Meets MSP Richard Lochhead

Dr John Bone and fellow researchers from the Just Transitions Lab at the University of Aberdeen have met with MSP Richard Lochhead to discuss the current energy crisis and the impact of energy transitions on communities in North-East Scotland.

The Scottish Government Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work visited the Old Aberdeen Campus and the research group presented their findings from ongoing projects and discussed their future plans.

A multidiscilinary, cross School research cluster, the Just Transitions Lab team includes Professor Clare Bond (Geosciences), Dr John Bone (Social Sciences), Professor Tavis Potts (Geosciences), Camilla Seeland (Geosciences), and Dr Daria Shapovalova (Law).

While Aberdeen and the surrounding region has been synonymous with energy for years, limited data means the subject of transitions has gained importance.

By engaging with stakeholders and politicians, the team hope to fill the gap, as Dr Shapovalova explains,

Working with colleagues in different disciplines and partner agencies gives us the best opportunity to achieve our goals

Funded by Uplift, who campaign for a just and fossil fuel-free UK, the broader project, entitled Just Transitions for Workers and Communities in the North-East of Scotland, will run between 2022-2023 and test existing policies against just transition indicators.
