Aberdeen University Press seeks five colleagues from the University to join their new Academic Advisory Board. Applications are welcome from any academic field, but preference may be given to applicants with a record of interdisciplinary research, or prior experience with editorial boards and/or academic publication.
Aberdeen University Press has entered a major new phase in its history by becoming an online and fully Open Access university press. This enables the Press to extend its portfolio beyond its existing focus on Scottish culture and literature, to a wide range of disciplines, and also interdisciplinary research. The vision is for AUP to become a global publisher of high-quality academic journals and monographs, with a particular focus on championing interdisciplinary research publications in line with the University's guiding principles as set out in the Aberdeen 2040 strategy.

Purpose
The purpose of the Academic Advisory Board is to approve or reject projects for publication, proposed series, and proposed journal titles under the Aberdeen University Press imprint, to advise the Executive Board on strategic directions, and to liaise with University of Aberdeen staff, and the wider academic community. It will also be involved in the resolution of publication disputes.
In this work, the Academic Advisory Board will look to support
- the management of the press in line with the University’s Open Research ambitions
- the development of an inclusive, diverse, and creative portfolio and work environment, supportive of the University’s wider culture of belonging
- the development of the portfolio of the Press in line the University’s research culture commitments
- the development of the portfolio of the Press in line with Aberdeen 2040 Strategic Plan
Membership
The Academic Advisory Board is composed of ten members of the University of Aberdeen and one external member. Posts are either ex officio or are filled by open advertisement, namely:
- Academic Chair
- University Librarian
- External Representative
- Chair of the Friends of the Library
- Postdoctoral Representative
- Postgraduate Representative
- Five academics
Terms of Office
Terms commence on 14 October 2022 and last for three years. Terms are renewable once. After that, a break of at least six months must be taken. Meetings will be held four times per year (Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter)
Recognition
Colleagues are expected to commit an estimated 30 hours per year in real-time workload. Allocation may be negotiated with the relevant Head of School/Line Manager. Annually the Librarian sends a letter of appreciation and recognition to each member, copied to their Head of School and Line Manager.
