Student wins top award for carbon capture presentation

A PhD student from the School of Engineering has won a top award for a presentation based around his research that aims to develop technologies for producing greener fuels.

Usman Azam received the best oral presentation award at the International Conference on Carbon Capture Science and Technology 2022, co-organised by Queen’s University Belfast, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Chongqing University, the Institution for Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and Elsevier.

Usman’s presentation - ‘Waste plastic management using circular economy via hydro catalytic route’ - is based around his project which is supervised by Dr Waheed Afzal and Dr Ines Graca and is funded via the Leverhulme Trust Centre for Doctoral Training in the Sustainable Production of Chemicals and Materials.

Commenting on Usman’s success, Dr Afzal said: “I congratulate Usman on his achievement, which is well deserved. I’d also like to thank the Leverhulme Trust CDT for sponsoring this research including its support for Usman’s PhD scholarship.”
