Administrative Officer Moira Milne retires this week after an impressive near five decades with the University.
Moira joined Northern College straight from school in September 1974 in the role of Office Junior. During her years there she received promotion firstly as Secretary to the Assistant Principal (Dean of Women) in 1978 and again in 1982 to the post of Secretary to the Vice Principal.
She moved to her current role as Administrative Officer in the Academic Services & Online Education Directorate in 1999. Moira has specific responsibility for exams, including leading on the production of three exam timetables each year.
This complex task involves scheduling over 1,000 exams per exam diet, with an estimated 10,000 plus students’ different course combinations per diet. This work needs to be conducted within a short timeframe and, as you can imagine, is an extremely detailed process which requires significant preparation and information gathering.
“To excel in this role, a person needs to be able to work with determination, patience and focus. It requires excellent organisational and planning abilities and can be quite an intense process,” said Deputy Academic Registrar Jennie Pearson.
“Moira has only ever shown tremendous dedication to her role and has worked with an exceptional focus at all times. She remains calm and coordinates the production of the timetables with precision. Her ability to work in detail and resolve problems is exceptional.”
The University and colleagues thank and celebrate Moira’s 48 years’ service, to Northern College and the University. We recognise the personal dedication, commitment and achievements that has involved in reaching this milestone and wish Moira every happiness for her retirement ahead.
