What is happening?
The latest release of Java 8 is now available in Software Center.
If you have a University supplied Windows device, and use Management Information Systems such as Student Records, Admissions, Accommodation or other applications requiring Java, we recommend that you choose a time to suit you and upgrade before 27 May.
After this, if Java 8 has not been updated, it will be done automatically which will make your PC unusable for the duration of the upgrade.
How do I upgrade?
On Windows devices, you can upgrade before 27 May using Software Center:
• Click Start
• Type the word software
• Click Software Center
• Select Java
• Install and close Internet Explorer/Word if prompted
• Old Java installs will be removed and the latest installed.
I don’t know if I use Java
You do not need to do anything. If your PC does have Java it will be upgraded automatically when the deadline passes.
