Umar Ismail, 40, from Nigeria will graduate today with an MSc in Psychological Studies - an achievement he describes as a 'dream come true.'
Umar, who has been a teacher in Nigeria for 15 years, made the decision to study counselling to improve his ability to help students with any problems they face. Umar did his research and decided that the School of Psychology at the University of Aberdeen was the perfect place to do just that.
Umar explains: “I love teaching and I wanted to study counselling so that I could acquire the skills and knowledge to understand my students’ problems so I can give them appropriate advice to enable them to overcome their difficulties.
"The School of Psychology is among the best in the entire UK so I was delighted to get the opportunity to study here.
“It has been a great experience even during the pandemic but I believe my success is in no small part down to the professionalism of the teaching staff and the encouragement they gave me to succeed.
“I am so very proud and grateful to be graduating from such a great university - in fact is a dream come true for me!”
