On Wednesday the 27th of October 2021, Dr Eddy Wifa and Prof John Paterson participated in the just concluded Black History Month and Road to COP26 event with the theme "The Energy and Climate Crisis in Africa: Lessons from Colonialism, sustainable Business Models and Resilient African Communities. " Dr Wifa Chaired the event while Prof Paterson delivered the closing remarks. Other participants included Prof Yinka Omorogbe SAN who delivered the keynote address and Prof Tavis Potts, the interim Director of the Centre for Energy Transition and Dr King Omeihe who is a Chair of African Studies at the British Academy of Management. Amongst other things, the event was designed to objectively analyse Africa's role in responding to the twin challenges of climate change and energy crisis. Some conclusions were that Africans will need to design strategic Energy Plan where"no one is left behind" as Prof Omorogbe puts it. Furthermore, Africa must adopt sustainable business models to maximise its abundant energy resource while mitigating against the variety of energy injustices that may arise.
