Gut health and heart disease - how important is your diet?

Gut health and heart disease - how important is your diet?

A team of research scientists at the Rowett Institute are investigating the link between gut bacteria and heart disease, and how diet may play a role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Professor Wendy Russell leads the gut health research group at the Rowett which focusses on investigating the role the gut plays in directing digested food around the body, with a view to improving health by dietary change.

In a new blog on the Rowett website, Professor Russell and her team discuss how their research has found that a balanced diet including fibre and wholegrains are linked to human health and can provide beneficial effects to the gut microbiota and health in general.
