Urology Foundation Trials Unit

Urology Foundation Trials Unit

CHaRT and the Academic Urology Unit (AUU) were successful in winning the open call for funding to act as The Urology Foundation’s (TUF) clinical trials unit.

TUF is a charity dedicated to working with researchers and health care professionals to improve urology care in the UK. Jointly with The British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), TUF held an open competition for three years’ core funding for UK clinical trials units to support the development and delivery of high quality surgical trials in urology. Objectives for the three-year period are to:

  • Hold an open call to UK urologists to submit proposals

  • Submit at least two applications for multi-centre clinical trials to the NIHR

  • Open the first multi-centre trial to recruitment

The first round of ideas were pitched by urologist at the 2021 BAUS conference in June using a Dragon’s Den style competition. The winning two ideas will be worked up for applications to the NIHR. Details on the competition are available at the link below. The winners will be decided by Mr Tim O’Brian (BAUS President), Professor Caroline Moore (Royal College of Surgeons BAUS Surgical Specialty Lead) and Professor Grant Stewart (Chair of TUF’s Science and Education Committee), as well as  Professors James N’Dow (Director of AUU, and Consultant Urological Surgeon) and Graeme MacLennan (Director of CHaRT)

Graeme and James are excited to be working with the urological community to turn their ideas into grant applications, and to build on the University of Aberdeen’s strong reputation for clinical research in urology.
