Direct Access Problems - Fri 3 September

Access to H drive, UoA websites and corporate applications will not be working for any DA3 laptops and desktops.

What is happening?

•    University corporate laptops connected to the server Direct Access 3 (DA3), also known as UOA Connection 3, are experiencing problems connecting to corporate resources.
•    Access to H drive, UoA websites and corporate applications will not be working for any DA3 laptops and desktops.

Server Repair Updates
•    We believe that we have now repaired the faulty Direct Access server fault but unfortunately, some PCs and Laptops still cannot connect from off-campus
•    We are urgently attempting different recovery solutions.
•    At this time we cannot issue instructions for those affected PCs & Laptops until more extensive testing has completed.

Next Update
•    We will issue a further update after 10am on Monday 6 September
•    If you are affected, please try some of the workarounds below.

How to check if you are affected
•    If your device connects on UoA Connection 3, you will be affected.
•    If your device connects on UoA Connection 2  or 4, you will not be affected.

To check this

Click on your Wireless or Wired internet icon at the bottom right of your laptop or desktop:
Wired icon -                 Wireless icon -

This will bring up the list of your internet connections.

If Direct Access is working then you will see an icon with the name UOA Connection 2, 3 or 4 such as the image below -

If you do not see the UOA Connection icon, then your laptop or desktop is affected by this problem.

Workarounds and temporary solutions
•    You can use the VPN service to gain access to your H:Drive and to web-based resources.
•    You can use the VDI service to access other electronic resources and applications such as MatLab.
•    Information on these can be found in Toolkit at https://www.abdn.ac.uk/toolkit/systems/remote-access/

Turn off Direct Access
•    If you are having issues browsing to the internet, or accessing UoA webpages, then it is possible to temporarily turn off Direct Access.
•    To do this open Direct Access on your device.
•    Click on the Direct Access server
•    Click on Disconnect
