Dr Fromageau contributed to the Research Handbook on International Law and Cities

Dr Edouard Fromageau wrote a chapter on Global Administrative Law (GAL) and Cities in the just published Research Handbook on International Law and Cities (edited by Helmut P.Aust, Janne E. Nijman and Miha Marcenko). This groundbreaking Research Handbook provides a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the impact of international law on cities. It sheds light on the growing global role of cities and makes the case for a renewed understanding of international law in the light of the urban turn. In his chapter, Edouard Fromageau argues that GAL could have been a perfect candidate to analyse the emerging regulatory powers of cities, if only GAL promoters would have considered them to be part of the ‘Global Administration’. He also investigates, following a counterfactual perspective, whether it could have been possible to apply criteria of GAL to recent examples of regulation by cities.
