For Alex Leung there have been not one but two Aberdeen's which have shaped his life.
With many happy visits to family in Aberdeen, Hong Kong, he was naturally drawn to the University in the city from which his relatives’ hometown took its name.
But it was more than just a name which convinced him this was the place to study - from his very first visit to the Granite City he found himself ‘passionately charmed by it’s people’.
Aberdeen will now write itself into his future career as well as his life as he receives his Bachelor of Laws (Accelerated) degree (Scots Law with English Law).
He will be taking from both Aberdeen’s a passion to ‘raise awareness for the underrepresented’.
“Having had a deep connection with Aberdeen in Hong Kong, I was curious about Aberdeen in north-east Scotland,” he said.
“I wanted to pursue a career in law and was impressed by the University’s reputation and its offering of two years accelerated LLB dually recognised across two jurisdictions in the United Kingdom.
“During my time at the University the support I have received has been astonishing and I know that I am very fortunate to have developed life-time connections with people who devote their time and effort here.
“In the time I have been here the pandemic has hit and there have been protests and revolutions around the world demanding justice and better equality.
“My degree and the people in the University have furnished me with the courage to fight for a better world and I hope to do that through my profession.”
Alex is already part of the Lawyers Without Border Aberdeen Division and acted as a second-year class representative to ensure student voices were heard.
He now plans to continue with a career in law with a focus on those most underrepresented.
