Dr Gearoid Millar's Latest Article in Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding

Dr Gearoid Millar has published his latest paper in the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding.

Entitled 'Trans-Scalar Ethnographic Peace Research: Understanding the Invisible Drivers of Complex Conflict and Complex Peace', the paper will also be presented at the International Studies Association's Virtual Platform between April 6-9, 2021.

In the paper, Dr Millar traces the limitations of qualitative and quantitative methodologies for examining the complex dynamics of peace and conflict, and suggests that Trans-Scalar Ethnographic Peace Research can facilitate such an examination of complex conflict dynamics.

This article will argue that such interventions often inspire, and may even require, violence of different kinds

Focusing on the challenges posed by radical alterity within complexity, Dr Millar addresses the issue of violence in peacebuilding, noting that, "in many cases violence occurs because of peacebuilding, or in fact, that peacebuilding in its dominant form seems often to require violence of different kinds".
