It has been a long and winding road towards graduation for Lucy Buchanan who graduates today, Friday April 17.
Originally from Aberdeen, Lucy will wrap up her final year working in a GP practice in Shetland where she hopes to stay. Having previously worked and studied in New Zealand, Stornoway, Shetland and Aberdeen, Lucy believes the opportunity to experience work in different communities has been hugely influential in her studies.
Lucy adds: “I've met the most fabulous, kind-hearted mentors and patients. I feel so privileged to have been welcomed into multiple communities and truly believe experiencing a variety of cultures and practices will make me a more understanding and patient-focused doctor in the future.”
Although describing experiencing a real mixed bag of emotions at the prospect of life on the front line, Lucy is keen to get be involved in helping with the NHS COVID-19 effort and will get stuck in any way she can, Lucy explains: “As long as I can be helpful in taking pressure off the big time docs and ensure I look after patients to the best of ability, I'll be content and an eager beaver in whatever role comes my way!”
