Trans Atlantic Rural Research Network 2019 meeting co-hosted by UoA Geography and JHI

The Trans Atlantic Rural Research Network (TARRN) comprises rural social scientists from the Universities of Aberdeen, Aberystwyth, Cornell, Newcastle, Penn State, Queen’s Belfast and the James Hutton Institute, and scholars visiting or otherwise affiliated with these institutions. The 2019 meeting was co-hosted by the James Hutton Institute and the University of Aberdeen and was organised by Drs Mags Currie and Annie McKee from JHI and Dr Lorna Philip, Geography and Environment, UoA.  The 2019 meeting involved 45 delegates, most of whom had submitted papers for open peer review at the meeting.  Delegates also attended sessions on innovative methods in rural social science research and the interface between academic research and public policy, the later addressed by representatives of Scottish Government, Highlands and Islands and the Rural Policy Centre based at SRUC.  A fieldtrip was held on the final day of the meeting and delegates were taken to various locations on Royal Deeside, including a visit to Tarland to find out about the Community Garden and Community Housing projects and to Burn O’Vat, location of the accompanying TARRN 2019 group photograph.
