The University of Aberdeen DAFNE team, led by Professor Zeray Yihdego and supported by Julie Gibson, submitted a report on the legal and policy frameworks within the Zambezi and Omo-Turkana river basins in December 2018.
The DAFNE Project is EU funded, and the recent report is part of the ongoing development of the research.
The report presented findings from the evaluation of more than 300 law and policy documents across ten countries, presented within a governance model. The model highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the frameworks in place before developing a number of recommendations and potential pathways for reform.
The report forms one component of the DAFNE Project which focuses on the development of a decision-analytic framework (DAF) to explore water-energy-food nexus approach for participatory and integrated planning within the Omo-Turkana and Zambezi River Basins. Teams of researchers from a number of European and African organisations work together on the multidisciplinary project which will continue until 2020. During 2019, the DAFNE project will further strengthen the options being developed under the DAF through negotiation simulation laboratories (NSLs) within the two basins which will bring stakeholders together to test and provide feedback on the various results found and options proposed.
