The current cohort of Master of Land Economy (MLE) students enjoyed their first field trips last week (20th and 21st Sep 2018). The Forestry Management course (led by Louise Page) took them to Kirkhill Forest, where they learned to recognise different tree species, dug a soil pit to identify soil type and had lunch in sunny (albeit windy) conditions. The following day saw the group on the MacRobert Estate in Tarland, hosted by Simon Power, where they received an introduction to estate management as part of their Agriculture course (led by James Dick and Katrin Prager). Part of the visit was to Tarland’s Community Garden which was set up on ground that the Trust provided to the community.
