University appoints new Senior Vice-Principal

The University of Aberdeen has announced the appointment of Professor Karl Leydecker as its new Senior Vice-Principal early next year.

Professor Leydecker is currently Vice-Principal (Learning & Teaching) and Professor of German and Comparative Literature at the University of Dundee.  He represents the University of Dundee on a number of external bodies including the Universities Scotland Learning and Teaching Committee, the Scottish Higher Education Enhancement Committee, and the FutureLearn Partner Advisory Group.

Originally from Scarborough, Professor Leydecker is a graduate of Oxford University who has also held senior positions at the universities of Kent and Stirling.

Welcoming his appointment, George Boyne, Principal and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Aberdeen, said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Leydecker to the University of Aberdeen.

“His track record of success demonstrates an intuitive understanding of the higher education landscape, particularly in areas that closely align with our own ambitions here at Aberdeen, such as internationalisation, student recruitment, widening access and student employability.

“I look forward to working with him as we develop a long-term strategy that builds upon the founding principles of inclusivity and academic excellence that have successfully guided the University over the centuries.”

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Leydecker said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been appointed to the role of Senior Vice-Principal at the University of Aberdeen.

“This is an exciting time to be joining the University under a new Principal.  I look forward to getting to know and working with colleagues across the whole University to shape and implement strategy and ensure that the University and its individual members are in the best possible position to flourish into the future.”
