4th Year BMus Recital Programme

4th Year BMus Recital Programme

On Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th May the BMus students will take to the stage in King's College Chapel for their final exam - a recital, open to the public, marking the end of four years of hard work and countless hours of preparation.

Although this is an exam, the BMus recital is a very special event, which is open to the public. Having a public audience adds that extra performance dimension and gives the students the opportunity to perform in a real concert situation as a solo artist. The recital is optional in the music department – other students have chosen different areas of specialism. BMus (Hons) Education students now complete their performance studies with a final recital for family and friends in their third year of studies, due to focusing in education in year four of the programme.

The fourth year students have been working extremely hard at preparing their pieces and also gaining experience at performance practice through participation in the various university ensembles, concerts and master-classes.

Whether the students are going on to a career in performance or in alternative careers such as instrumental teaching or community music, the performance option and recital has undoubtedly been a valuable learning experience. They have grown in confidence and ability, and are approaching the final recital with a mixture of excitement, passion and enthusiasm. Here are responses from some of the students towards how they feel about their upcoming performances:

‘I'm really anticipating my fourth recital, as it is a culmination of four years of hard work at university. I'm feeling nervous but exited at the opportunity to play in front of family, friends and fellow students in a beautiful venue. I'm really looking forward to performing some of my favourite pieces for flute.’

Kirsty Campbell, BMus (Hons) Music and Communities

‘I am very excited to be able to perform music of such high calibre for my Final Undergraduate recital. Being able to perform in King's College Chapel this year will allow me to show my tutors, family and friends how far I have come since I first started and how every performance along the way has helped my playing. This is sure to be my best performance to date and I cannot wait to be able to perform for my peers and thank them for their support throughout the last 10 years of me practicing my craft.’

Brodie McCash, BMus (Hons) Music

‘I'm very excited for my upcoming recital - it'll be a good opportunity to demonstrate what I've learned over the past four years, in the gorgeous University Chapel. However, it will also be quite bittersweet, as it will be my last performance ever as a student of the University of Aberdeen.’

Kirsten Beveridge, BMus (Hons) Music

The final year BMus recitals take place 14th-15th May 2016 in King’s College Chapel. They are open to all and free to attend. All recitals last approximately 30 minutes.
