From Saturday 13 January, we will be introducing out-of-hours maintenance slots for all managed Windows PCs on campus.
What is happening?
From Saturday 13 January 2018, we will be introducing out-of-hours maintenance slots for all managed Windows PCs on campus.
How does this affect you?
Our power management system will wake up your Windows PC each Saturday at 1 am and install any outstanding security and critical updates. At the same time we will carry out a full anti-virus/malware scan. Once the updates are complete, your PC will restart itself if required.
You can continue to shut down your PC at close of business each day, but we would ask you not to unplug it or switch it off at the wall socket.
If you have a device that has previously been excluded from updates, we will be contacting you to discuss the implementation of a custom maintenance slot to suit.
Why are we doing this?
These new maintenance slots will avoid updating and scanning PCs during core business hours, and will also ensure our PC estate is fully patched, up to date and compliant with security requirements.
