Record-breaking year for University in scholarship programme

A record-breaking number of students from the University of Aberdeen have been selected for this year's Saltire Scholar Internship Programme.

The programme, which is run by Entrepreneurial Scotland, provides Scotland’s most talented students with opportunities to work with leading businesses and organisations across the world.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the initiative, and 20 students from the University - a record number - will soon embark on internships with companies including Barclays and GlaxoSmithKline, at locations as far afield as California and Texas.

Peter Fantom, Head of Careers Service at the University of Aberdeen, said: “We are delighted to mark the tenth anniversary of the Saltire Scholar Internship Programme with a record number of successful applications from our students, which is testament to the depth of talent we have here at the University.

“They can now look forward to spending their summer gaining valuable experience at respected companies in locations around the world, which will stand them in good stead in their future careers.

“I’d like to congratulate all of our Saltire Scholars on their success, and wish them all the best as they prepare to embark on their internships.”

Sara Nelson, Head of Saltire Scholar Internship programme, said: “The programme is not only life changing for the students that take part, it is hugely valued by our host company partners and Saltire Scholars are highly sought after by graduate employers.

“Firms who want to grow their business say their biggest challenge is finding talented people with the ambition, attitude and skills to get the job done.  Saltire Scholars again and again show that they have these qualities.”
