SCANDI Saturday - 27 May 2017

Come along and hear Norwegian novelist, Anne Oterholm, 10th-century Viking Skaldic poetry with Ian Crockatt, Sami related poetry and prose from Kenneth Steven with Swedish/Norwegian music duo Jonzon.

Several FREE events will be open to all with fantastic music from Jonzon. Booking essential.

  • Join Perthshire poet, translator and novelist Kenneth Steven for the first of the Festival's three Scandinavian-themed literary events for poetry and prose relating to the Sami people. Kenneth Steven was commissioned to translate the Nordic Prize-winning novel The Half Brother (his translation went on to be short-listed for two major literary awards). 
  • Norwegian novelist, Anne Oterholm, from North-partner University of Tromso’s Creative Writing department won the Okklubben Nye Bøkers Prize for the Debut Author of the Year in 1995 with ikke noe annet enn det du vil. Her eigth novel Lily of the Valley Girl, has been nominated for the Brage Prize. Readings will be in English and Norwegian.
  • 10th-century Viking Skaldic poetry with award-winning poet and poetry translator, Ian Crockatt who will launch The Song Weigher, his newly published volume of poetry translated from Old Norse.

Swedish/Norwegian music duo, Jonzon (Kristin Borgehed and Nathan Bissette) will perform traditional Scandinavian songs and tunes to the award-winning poet and translator Ian Crockatt's launch of poetry translated from Old Norse. Not to be missed microtonal Nordic ballads of brutality and social realism with a heap of poetic romance! 

Book signings will be in the afternoon - May Tent, King’s Lawn.
