Prestigious RSE medal for fungal infection expert

A University of Aberdeen fungal infection expert has won one of medicine's top awards.

Professor Neil Gow has been announced as winner of the prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh Sir James Black Medal for 2017.

The award, which is the RSE’s senior prize in Life Sciences, was given to Professor Gow for his outstanding contribution to the field of mycology through his ground-breaking research on human fungal infections.

As part of the award he has been invited to deliver a lecture at the RSE on October 23, where he will also be formally presented with the medal.

Professor Gow said: “I am honoured to be named winner of the Sir James Black Medal. This award is really a measure of the talent in the Aberdeen Fungal Group and it is my lab and the loyalty and support of my colleagues that I want to emphasise.”
