Tennis coach Judy Murray, TV and radio presenter Nicky Campbell and the founders of a north-east charity campaign are among those to be honoured at the University of Aberdeen's Winter Graduations.
Ms Murray will be presented with a degree honoris causa (DHC) in recognition of her contribution to tennis at both grassroots and professional level while Mr Campbell, an Aberdeen graduate, will receive the same award to acknowledge his services to both broadcasting and to adoption and fostering.
Members of the organising committee of Fraserburgh’s Moonlight Prowl charity walk, which has raised more than £800,000 to support breast cancer research in the north-east, will receive the Benefactor to the University award.
Honorary Doctor of Science degrees will also be presented to Lesley Glasser, who helped to found the Aberdeen science centre Satrosphere and was instrumental in the creation of Techfest and to her husband Fred Glasser, a globally recognised scientist in the fields of green concrete and carbon capture.
Degree honoris causa awards will also be conferred on Aberdeen-born Sara Parkin for service to education and sustainable development, Anita Frew in recognition of her distinguished career in the financial sector and Elly Barnes who has devoted her career to helping schools become environments in which LGBT students and teachers can thrive without fear of discrimination.
An honorary Doctor of Divinity award will be made to Very Rev John Chalmers, a former Moderator of the Church of Scotland who has been influential in encouragingthe church to be an instrument of healing and reconciliation, while a Doctor of Science degree will be presented to Nyovani Madise, Professor of Demography and Social Statistics at the University of Southampton and advisor to the World Health Organisation.
Winter Graduations at the University of Aberdeen will take place on Thursday November 24 and Friday November 25.
Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: “Graduations are a time to celebrate the success of our students and to recognise the inspirational achievements of our honorary graduates.
“They are also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the support of family, friends and other networks in allowing us to achieve these goals.
“Our honorary graduates have all reached the top of their prospective fields and are great role models for our students. We look forward to welcoming them to the University of Aberdeen family.”
