Within the laboratory we have the ability to synthesise catalysts by a variety of standard methods. In terms of catalyst characterisation, we are well equipped in-house:

  • Routine volumetric physisorption analysis (i.e., surface area, pore size, pore volume)
  • Chemisorption methods (both volumetric and dynamic)
  • Temperature programmed methods (i.e., TPR, TPD & TPO)
  • FTIR analysis using probe molecules (CO for metals & pyridine for acid sites)

Catalyst testing can be performed in either batch or flow reactors:

  • Autoclave reactors for batch reactions at elevated pressures
  • Atmospheric or pressurised systems for gas phase flow reactors
  • Pressurised systems for 3-phase continuous flow studies
  • In-situ/operando reaction experiments using combined FTIR and Mass Spectrometry

We also make use of central facilities (TGA, XRD, SEM & EDX) and collaborate for access to other specialised techniques (TEM and XPS)
