Equipment
The Marine Biodiscovery Centre (MBC) contains facilities for microbial cultivation and has a molecular biology lab for to carry out most molecular genetics procedures including genome scanning. There is a fully equipped natural product extraction and isolation laboratory containing rotary evaporators (10) with pumps and chillers, size exclusion chromatography with fraction collectors (2), medium pressure liquid chromatography (2 one with ELSD), HPLC with fraction collectors and UV-DAD detectors (4), high resolution mass spectrometer (Orbitrap LC-MS, Bruker MaxisII LC-MS) and Bruker 400, 600 MHz NMR systems, the latter with a liquid nitrogen cryoprobe.
The MBC has two laboratories well-equipped for molecular biology (PCR, high pressure homogeniser, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis), peptide synthesis (automated microwave peptide synthesiser), chromatography (Agilent HPLC with DAD), Protein purification (2 Biorad NGC medium-pressure liquid chromatography systems), microbial fermentation (autoclavable glass bioreactors and shaking and static incubators) and in silico drug design.
