University of Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra

University of Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra

Comprising instrumentalists from the Music Department and across the University, the Symphony Orchestra is one of Aberdeen’s leading ensembles. We aspire to be a flagship orchestra for the northeast of Scotland, performing a wide range of repertoire including classical and romantic favourites, forgotten masterpieces, and brand new works by living composers.

Our next concert will be at St Machar’s Cathedral in Old Aberdeen in December. The programme includes a sequence of flights of fancy by late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century composers, including Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream overture, Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Suk’s Fantastic Scherzo, Ravel’s Mother Goose and Chaminade’s Callirhoé.
