Steel Pan Ensemble

The Steel Pan Ensemble is a group designed to give students an enjoyable experience of playing Caribbean calypso and soca as well as more modern arrangements. It is an unconventionally laid out instrument and although, like any percussion instrument, does not require intonation, it does require an ear as the main form of learning is as they do in Trinidad – by rote. There is always sheet music there but the emphasis is on learning your part whilst listening to others. No experience necessary and you do not have to be a percussionist to play!
