On Monday 2 March 2015, students from the Department of Music took part in a class given by Sietze de Vries, a Dutch organist renowned for his ‘old style’ improvisations which are inspired by music of the North German Organ School and J.S. Bach.
John Hudson, Ed Jones and Peter Relph explored various different ways of improvising on a chorale melody, and by the end of the session were able to improvise a chorale prelude.
Sietze is giving a recital on Tuesday 3 March at 7.30 p.m. in King’s College Chapel which will include improvisation.
