Lecturer in Music Performance Dr Aaron McGregor and PhD researcher Morag Johnston set off on a concert tour of Brittany, exploring rediscovered repertoire by female musicians from the "Golden Age" of Scottish fiddle music of the late 18th century.
The tour has been funded by the British Council as part of their "UK/France Spotlight on Culture", partnering Scottish and French organisations to bring a Scottish cultural project to France. The University of Aberdeen has partnered with French musical collective La Pie Qui Joue, bringing together performers from Scotland and France, including baroque cellist Alison McGillivray and harpsichordist Claude Meneux.
The tour follows on from performances this year, including a recital at Harpsichord En Fête (at King's College Chapel) organised by the Institute Français, an invited performance at the British Association for Romantic Studies conference, and a concert at the inaugural Glasgow Barons Early Music Festival.
Morag Johnston has also started to explore the topic in more detail as part of a SGSAH-funded PhD at the university.
