We are delighted to have received a grant to fund costumes for our Alcina early opera project from the Ambache Charitable Trust.
The Trust's purpose is 'to widen the circle of people hearing women's music, and to fuel interest in it.’
The Early Music Ensembles at the University of Aberdeen will perform Francesca Caccini's La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall' Isola di Alcina (1625) which is the earliest surviving music-dramatic work by a female composer. The participating students will receive coaching from leading professionals, and the ensemble will be collaborating with Aberdeenshire equestrians for a unique staging, including a horse ballet to conclude!
In addition to funding from the Ambache Charitable Trust, this project is supported by the University of Aberdeen Student Experience Fund. If you would like to sponsor a seamster for this fantastic project, you can find all information and our funding pages on www.alcinasmonsters.com.
After the initial postponement of this opera due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are at this stage looking forward to hold two performances on Sunday, 4th July 2021. Please continue to follow us for updates.
