David Henderson's composition - Msohrwyhof - awarded first prize in an evening of world premiers.
Professor John Casken had the unenviable task of picking a winner from the five finalists at this years Carlaw-Ogston Composition Competition and, after much thought he chose the composition by David Henderson as meeting the criteria of the competition the best.
Professor Casken spoke about each piece in turn and said all had great merit and it was a shame to pick out one above the others but this was the nature of competition.
Margaret Carlaw and Derek Ogston were on hand to present the prize which includes a commission from David to be premiered by Spectrum New Music Group in the next Concert Series 2020-21.
Congratulations to all who entered and to all the players for coping admirably with the challenges each of the pieces threw up. Dr John de Simone, newly appointed Senior Lecturer in Composition, gave a closing vote of thanks.
